Auto-enthusiasts break Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of classic cars

MEXICO SMASHES GUINNESS WORLD RECORD Auto-enthusiasts gathered in Mexico City on Sunday (5OCT2014) to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest parade of classic cars. An array of gleaming classic models drove down the city’s main avenue as part of the four hour-long parade. With a total of 1721 vintage vehicles counted, the participants succeeded in breaking the previous record of 948 cars held in Holland. “It was a heap of junk when I bought it, and it took me four years to restore it, and even now it’s not finished, I still have a few little details to finish off but I love classic cars,” said taxi driver Francisco Barranco, who took part in Sunday’s event. Organisers said that around 250,000 spectators turned out to watch the parade, which was organised by the Mexican Federation of Antique Cars and History Channel Latinoamerica. Vice-President of Marketing for the History Channel Latinoamerica, Cesar Coletti, said it had taken them a year to organise the event.
